New Green Travel Guide from Expedia

One of the world’s leading travel resource providers, Expedia, has announced the launch of its new eco-friendly Green Travel Guide.

The new guide, produced in conjunction with Sustainable Tourism International, is aimed squarely at the modern traveller who is becoming increasingly aware of his carbon footprint and how best to enjoy the world without leaving a lasting, negative impact on it.

The guide essentially provides a rating tool for hotel accommodation that Expedia has long been an online market leader for. By investigating and providing relevant sustainable business practice information on hotel destinations, The Green Travel Guide is essential reading for any traveller who is environmentally conscious.

In addition to hotel accommodation, Expedia and STI have joined forces to gauge the practices of suppliers of a range of travel-related services through developing both methodologies and criteria for identifying Green Hotels.

Expedia welcomed the partnership with STI, as the travel specialist continues to expand its offering of Green Hotels on its hugely popular website. The group advocates the mission of STI to educate world travellers on the need for sustainable travel, and the agreement reflects the new direction that Expedia has chosen.

Any eco-certified properties can be found at the Expedia website, with the majority belonging to the Sustainable Tourism Eco-certification Program (STEP)  in addition to other certified travel services providers that have affiliation with Expedia. All are delegated a second or third tier rating to reflect their commitment to green operations.
